Staying Requires Seats

5000 OR MORE SEATS WITH SHADING NEEDED IN TORONTO’S DOWNTOWN INNER CORE’S PUBLIC OPEN SPACE
As mentioned on the previous page - more often than not -  people arrive in public open space in order to just hang out with other people and stay for a long time. Naturally people get tired and would like to sit down. Where do breast feeding women sit - in a smoke hazed bar patio? Where do tired children sit - in a smoke hazed bar patio? Toronto lacks at least 5000 seats in public open space - just in the downtown inner core of the city. And another 10,000 to 20,000 seats are missing in the burbs; that is, once public open space happens in the burbs. A drive in theatre is not a public open space.

By the way, only two people will generally sit on a 3 person bench. And if the bench is positioned in the middle of no-where; likely, no-one will sit there. Nor will anyone sit on a bench 2 foot from a curb - facing diesel bus and diesel truck traffic/fumes.

Nor will people likely sit on a bench or seat that isn’t shaded on a hot summer’s day! Took me forever to get umbrellas for the handful of tables and chairs at Dundas St. Sq. (Or should that square be called Stalag 41B? All that is missing is the barbed wire!)
